Creating Wheat Grass Treats for Cats and Dogs.
Wheatgrass centerpieces are beautiful, multi-functional, and highly nutritious for both people and pets. Exquisite gift presentations made of live, organic wheatgrass are perfect as homemade pet treats or elegant, usable table decor.
Unfortunately, it is nearly impossible to find grass for cats and other pets in stores that is pretty enough to add beauty to your home, or present as a gift.
Luckily, wheatgrass centerpieces are simple and affordable to grow.
Does size matter? Small centerpieces vs. standard sized flats.
The main advantage of a smaller surface area of grass is the prevention of mold growth. Standard sized flats of wheatgrass have a high density of tall grass, which causes poor ventilation, facilitating mold growth.
Smaller centerpieces with wheatgrass are desirable as usable house plants, which can be placed throughout the home, adding beauty and naturally filtering the air. However, standard sized flats of grass can work well in centerpiece designs, and also serve one other handy function…
Standard sized (or even bigger) flats of wheatgrass, once harvested and used, can later become a natural dog potty, perfect for small dogs.
Natural wheatgrass dog potty.
If you are an avid grower and user of wheatgrass, utilizing full flats routinely, you could provide your small dog with a nice, natural dog potty that is not too messy, and comfortable to use.
Used wheatgrass flats make ideal natural doggie potties because the peat moss in the soil acts like a sponge to absorb the urine. There is no need to clean a natural dog potty. Simply discard and replace when necessary. Using more soil will increase the life of a wheatgrass dog potty.
To inhibit mold growth on standard trays of wheatgrass, use less seeds. Some instructions for growing wheatgrass call for 2 cups of dry seeds per standard sized tray. In fact, it is safer to use one cup or less. Mold grows on seeds that fail to sprout. Also, fewer seeds planted = fewer wasted seeds + increased ventilation.
Let your imagination run wild...
When it comes to designing gifts of grass for cats, dogs, and other pets, the choices are endless. Try pretty, practical containers for your pet grass, such as heavy dog bowls, or holiday tins. Homemade pet treats of lush, organic wheatgrass are sure to be sniffed, savored, chewed and cherished!

Good idea, I would have never thought of using wheat grass as a pet treat or potty pad.
Thanks for your creative ideas. Mike

This is a nice idea. Maybe you could add information on where to find the seed.
